Aker Care supports “Making of a Giant”
The Johan Sverdrup phase 1 project is into a challenging and hectic period with several milestones closing in. Acknowledging that delivering quality work on schedule would increase the work pressure on both teams and individuals, Project Director Stefan Johansson asked Aker Care to assist the project organization with stress resilience and management courses at an early stage of the project.
Ten sessions of “Working under Pressure” a 2h stress awareness and resilience course was given by Head of Aker Care Ola Rønsen in Oslo and London late last year and earlier this year. Just recently another four sessions were completed in our Mumbai office in India. “Feedback from our project personnel has been very positive and we feel that the course has been a great help in learning how stress in some ways can be used as a positive trigger for improved performance. At the same time we have increased our awareness of how stress can be detrimental to both physical and mental health” says Merete Lieng, the HSE manager on Johan Sverdrup.
As a follow up of this Level 1 course, and in cooperation with Rikke Olafsen Rokke from Johan Sverdrup Academy, a new module “Leading under pressure” was developed targeting all discipline leads and managers in the JS project. The focus is on learning how to detect and mitigate stress in your team and explore ways of approaching employees that develop symptoms of negative stress. “Judged by evaluations from the initial Leading under Pressure courses held in Oslo and London, these sessions have been a great success in our project organization and we will continue to roll out this program as leadership and management support in Johan Sverdrup together with our client Statoil” says Lieng.
